Yorkshire Sliding Sash Windows

The signature piece of any signalbox must be the array of Yorkshire sliding sash windows stretching around three sides and giving the signalman an uninterrupted view of approaching traffic. For the past few weeks, we have been busying ourselves with building an extremely truculent fireplace whilst awaiting the construction, and anticipating the installation of, our windows and, at last, over the last two days, our joiner, Rick, has fitted a beautifully crafted set. This must be regarded as a major step forward in our building programme as it facilitates the fitting of the roof.

Planet says hello

In case you are wondering, this is because three sides of the roof are supported by the window frames, so robustness in their construction is paramount. The steel lintels that will carry the weight of the brick gable ends have also been installed atop the windows, so you will appreciate the important role they play in the construction of the ‘box.

The windows have been fitted over the
last two days and they look superb!

The simple little fireplace I mentioned earlier is almost finished after a totally disproportionate and tortuous amount of work and we will show you the results shortly.
